LONDON CITY AIRPORT - VOTED BEST IN THE UK

The public voted London City Airport as the 'Best UK Airport'. The title has been awarded by readers of the consumer travel publication 'Wanderlust'.

Commenting on this accolade, Charles Buchanan, Business Development Director for London City Airport said: "We are thrilled and honoured to receive such recognition for the second year running from the travel consumer. This award confirms that London City Airport continues to deliver and exceed expectations of the experienced travel readers of Wanderlust, delivering an unbeatable service for both travel within Europe and for long haul connections."

2007 is set to be a very exciting year for London City Airport, following on from the success of 2006, which saw the route network grow from 26 destinations to 31, with route launches to Copenhagen, Milan, Madrid, Hamburg, Nuremberg and Groningen. In early November the 2 million passenger milestone in a calendar year was achieved for the first time, reaching 2.4 million by the end of year.

Charles, believes the growing passenger numbers reinforce the Airport's new owners' opinion, that London City Airport has exciting growth potential: "The recent sale demonstrates the true value of our business. Our new owners’ are looking to drive our development plans forward to maximise the potential of the investment. In order to grow and maximise the potential of the Airport, our immediate plans will be to increase capacity.

“The next phase of development for London City Airport will focus on extending the aircraft parking apron to add a further five parking stands to the east while, at the same time, enhancing the route network. This year we have already seen a new service launched to Rome by Air One, who plan to launch a further two services to Genoa and Turin in March. SAS are also introducing an additional daily service in March to Copenhagen, bringing the total number of return flights from London City to three per day. We are confident that in 2007 passenger numbers will continue to grow, we are expecting growth of around 10%.”
