ROSETTA SCHOOL GREET BARNABY BEAR AS HE TOUCHES DOWN AT LONDON CITY AIRPORT

On Wednesday 28 February 2007 at 10:00 Barnaby Bear touched down at London City Airport.  Ready to welcome him back to London were all his friends from Year 2 at Rosetta School, who he helps to learn all about travel and explore the many different parts of the world.

The travels and holidays of Barnaby Bear form the content of Unit Five of the Geography National Curriculum for Primary Years One and Two.  The unit focuses on countries around the world and their cultures, as well as looking at the different modes of transport people use to travel.

When approached by Geoff Hadlow, Head Teacher of Rosetta School. Elizabeth Hegarty, Community Relations Manager for London City Airport, was only to happy to help make travel arrangements for Barnaby to fly into London City Airport: “We are always happy to see Barnaby back at London City Airport.   Working with Barnaby we can support the school and help the children to gain a real understanding about air transport.

“Although children can learn from text books and pictures, we believe that they learn a lot more by actually seeing for themselves how people travel by air.  With the help of Barnaby we can show and explain to the children how the airport works and, as a passenger, what stages you go through before boarding an aircraft and when you land at your destination.”

Geoff Hadlow said: “The London City Airport Travel Programme, has been a real success, bringing the travels of Barnaby Bear to life and capturing the children’s attention.  Visiting the airport helped the children to understand air travel and on behalf of Year 2 and the school I would like to thank the Airport for their support, we hope that our visit will be the first of many more.”
