London City Airport is now providing fresh fruit to over four hundred employees every week. Working in partnership with Community Food Enterprise (CFE), a large selection of fruit is delivered to each airport department every week.
Elizabeth Hegarty, London City Airport Community Relations Manager said “The scheme which was originally set up on a trial basis has been a real hit with staff. We all know that eating a healthy and balanced diet consists of a high intake of fruit and vegetables. With this scheme we can help staff achieve part of their five a day and it offers business to a local supplier”.
Eric Samuel, Chief Executive Officer of Community Food Enterprise said “Our services have never been so popular, as these days everyone is becoming more and more health conscious. Our aim is to provide quality fruit and vegetables to the entire community at affordable prices”
As well as supplying fresh fruit and vegetables to businesses CFE also distributes good food using mobile food vans, and delivering supplies to local school breakfast clubs and nurseries.
London City Airport is a key employer and the largest private sector employment site within the London Borough of Newham. Approximately 70 per cent of those engaged on-site live within a five mile radius of the airport.
