London City Airport received the Gold Award for Top UK Airport, voted by Wanderlust magazine’s readers, for the fourth year running. The award, presented by the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Lyn Hughes at the Destinations Travel Show in London on 5 February 2009, recognises the airport’s continued commitment to customer service and its convenient location only a short distance from the centre of London.
Rupa Haria, PR Manager of London City Airport, collecting the award on behalf of the airport, commented: “We are delighted to have retained our crown as Top UK Airport for the fourth year in a row. The team at London City Airport is dedicated to providing the best possible passenger experience and Wanderlust readers have demonstrated their commitment to the airport by voting for us.”
2008 was a record year for London City, handling 3.3 million passengers as well as investing in new and expanded facilities. London City Airport is looking forward to an exciting year ahead despite the economic turmoil. Refurbishment of the airport’s departure lounge will complete in spring. Two new services were launched in January to Isle of Man with Aer Arann and Billund with SunAir a British Airways franchise carrier. British Airways will replace its entire London City fleet with new generation fuel efficient Embraer 170 and 190s, and the carrier will launch the first ever long haul business class only service from London City to New York using Airbus A318s to provide two flights each weekday in each direction.
