London City Airport Becomes a Gold Member

London City Airport presented a cheque for £41,563.04 to Richard House Children’s Hospice, Newham, which provides care and respite to children with life-limiting conditions.

The donation includes funds raised from the airport’s annual Fun Day, held on Saturday 3rd July 2010, along with other funding activities carried out by airport staff throughout the year.

Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive of London City Airport presented the cheque to Richard House’s Chief Executive Peter Ellis.  Peter commented: ““We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support from the staff at London City Airport. Their fun day is a tremendous occasion which helps to create considerable sums for the hospice as well as a wonderful day out for the children and families that use Richard House’s services. However, the fun day is just the tip of iceberg as their staff dedicate their spare time throughout the year in an attempt to raise money for the hospice through fundraising events such as runs and other challenges. The funds raised this year brings the total income raised for Richard House by London City Airport over the past 15 years to over £500,000. This tireless effort enables Richard House to continue the much needed care it supplies to children, young adults and their families from the local area.”

Since 1996 the airport has supported the Hospice and has raised well over half a million pounds through fundraising and volunteering.  In recognition of the airports 15 years of contributions Peter Ellis presented Richard with a Certificate of Gold Membership.

Richard commented: “We are pleased that our contributions have made a real and lasting impact to the Hospice. Our continuous support shows the staff’s passion and commitment to the Hospice and we look forward to continuing to support our favorite charity.”

Airport staff, this summer, were also busy collecting, over a four week period, unwanted clothes, books, CDs, electrical goods and household items all to be donated and distributed to one of Richard House’s charity shops across East London.  The proceeds raised go towards the running of the facility.
