London City Airport launched a Corporate Christmas Card Competition for local Primary Schools in Newham and Tower Hamlets.
Year 6 classes at Old Palace Primary School in Tower Hamlets, Drew Primary School, Gallions Primary School, Britannia Village Primary School and St Luke’s Primary School, all in Newham, were invited to take part in the competition.
The pupils were set the challenge to design a Corporate Christmas card themed around the Airport. The entries were judged by senior Airport staff and the nine winning designs are being integrated into London City Airport’s 2010 Corporate Christmas card.
The winning young artists were presented with a framed Christmas card featuring their design and awarded a prize kindly donated by WH Smith, in an awards ceremony held at the Airport. The pupils, their parents and a teacher from each school attended the awards ceremony which was hosted by Darren Grover, Chief Operating Officer for London City Airport.
Tricia Handley, Marketing Communications Director of London City Airport said: “Throughout the year, the Airport’s Community Relations Team has developed long standing relationships with these Primary Schools involved in the competition. It is a great way to engage the pupils in creative activities and artwork, therefore, this seemed like the perfect solution to achieving a unique and personal Christmas card for London City Airport this year.
“Thank you to all schools and pupils who participated.”
