British Airways trial self-bag drop check-in
26/09/2012
London City Airport, in conjunction with British Airways, is currently trialling an innovative self-service bag drop facility.
BA check-in desk 7 will be replaced with a smaller, ‘podium’ style, counter. Passengers will be able to check-in and print their own baggage labels from a self-service kiosk before proceeding to the podium - where a BA staff member, standing on the concourse, in front of the podium, will briefly scan the baggage tag to ensure that the luggage and the ticket match. The passenger then drops the bag and is free to proceed to security.
This service has been devised to reduce queue times, as well as improving the overall passenger experience. It will be trialled for a month, at the end of which time we will evaluate how successful it has been. The trail period will end on 15/10/2012.
