Darren Grover has been appointed chief operating officer of London City Airport, effective immediately.
Darren joined London City Airport eight years ago to set up and manage the Jet Centre which saw a 400 per cent increase in movements in the first five years. He later transferred to the role of director, ramp services, where he was responsible for over 200 staff working at the heart of the airport's operations.
Congratulating Darren on his new role, Richard Gooding OBE, chief executive of London City Airport said: "Darren has been an asset to the management team at LCY. Under his leadership, the Jet Centres at LCY and RAF Northolt have become world-class facilities. He has made positive changes to the airport’s operation, significantly improving turnaround times. This appointment is an excellent example of how London City Airport develops its people over the long term. The staff and management at LCY congratulate Darren on his success.”
Commenting on his promotion, Darren said: “I am delighted to be appointed chief operating officer of this world-class facility. In his new role Darren reports directly to the airport's chief executive and oversees the day-to-day running of the airport including terminal services, safety, aerodrome operations, engineering, projects, property, sales and jet centre. Darren takes over the role from outgoing COO Scott Stanley.
Previously, Darren managed Inflite’s Stansted corporate aircraft operation and has over fifteen years experience working in the corporate aviation industry.
London City Airport recently announced a £7 million project to reconfigure its terminal building, commencing early 2010. The project will provide a significantly enlarged passenger search area as well as additional space and comfort for passengers in the departure lounge.
This latest project follows significant investment over the past two years, including the construction of four new aircraft stands and connecting pier, a two-phased expansion and refurbishment of the departure lounge, a new outbound baggage facility, self service check-in kiosks, and full refurbishment of the Jet Centre terminal.
