New London City – Aberdeen route launched

25/04/2012

British Airways is to launch a new route between London City Airport and Aberdeen with three return flights a day.

BA CityFlyer, the wholly-owned subsidiary of British Airways, will operate the service from September using aircraft from its fleet of new Embraer 170 and 190 jets.

British Airways operates seven return flights a day between Aberdeen and Heathrow.

Luke Hayhoe, BA CityFlyer commercial manager, said: “Our direct flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow to London City are extremely popular with Scottish customers who want to want fly straight to the heart of the City, for both business or leisure.

“We are delighted to be adding flights from Aberdeen linking Europe’s oil capital with the UK’s financial and business hub.

“It reflects the strength of the economy in Aberdeen and the north east of Scotland.

“Aberdeen has been an important part of the British Airways network for many years and continues to be so.

“This new route complements the existing Aberdeen to Heathrow service, giving our customers greater choice and additional frequency when travelling between these two great wealth generating cities.”

Declan Collier, Chief Executive, London City Airport commented: “The launch of the Aberdeen route is great news for business travelers using London City Airport and complements the Scottish destinations that LCY already serves.

“The airport’s convenient location in the Docklands – just 3 miles from Canary Wharf, 7 miles from the City and 13 from the West End - and our customer proposition of 20 minute check-in (door to gate) and 10 minute arrival (wheel down to taxi) - LCY is well positioned to further strengthen business links between London and Scotland’s hub cities.”

All inclusive one way fares between Aberdeen and London City start from £80 and include generous free 23kg luggage allowance, free online check-in and seat selection 24 hours before departure and complimentary food and drink on board.

Editors note

London City Airport (LCY) is the only airport situated in London itself, just two miles from the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End – linked to all via the LCY Docklands Light Railway station. Welcoming over 3 million passengers in 2011, LCY is not only uniquely convenient, but offers a uniquely rapid transit, through check-in and security to the departure lounge and gate, of around 20 minutes. 12 airlines fly out of LCY, serving over 40 destinations including Dublin, Madrid and Geneva – the latest additions for 2012 are Aberdeen, Venice, Basel, Mahon, Angers and Quimper. LCY is on Twitter (@londoncityairport) and further information about flights, destinations and airport services can be found at www.londoncityairport.com.
