British Airways flights to the Northern Italian gateway of Venice take off from London City Airport today (September 17). The six times a week service to the city of canals is the sixth new destination this year for British Airways from London City where the airline is now officially the largest operator with the highest number of routes and customers.
As the airline continues to grow its network from London City, customers have more choice to more leisure destinations, flying on one of the youngest aircraft fleets in the business.A total of 23 destinations in the UK, Europe and the USA are served by British Airways from the airport.
Luke Hayhoe, general manager commercial for British Airways at London City, said: “We are very excited about the launch of the new Venice service, a popular winter and summer route. This is what our customers have been asking for, year-round short break destinations that are only a couple of hours flying time from the centre of London.
Our customers love the quick and easy service at London City, just 15 minutes from curbside to airside, making the most of their valuable time. We have some very competitive all inclusive fares to all our destinations, which include a generous free 23kg luggage allowance, free on-line check-in and seat selection 24 hours before departure and complimentary food and drink on board.
London City Airport (LCY) is the only London airport situated in London itself, just three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End and linked to all via the Docklands Light Railway. Infrastructure improvements in 2011 catered for 3 million passengers and 70,000 movements, while in 2012 LCY celebrated its millionth flight, 35 millionth passenger and 25 years of operation. LCY offers a unique 20/10 proposition – a 20 minute check in, from door to gate, and a 10 minute arrival, from tarmac to train. 10 airlines fly out of LCY, serving 42 destinations, including Dublin, Madrid and Geneva . Seven new destinations were added in 2012, and the airport has permission to increase its operation to 120,000 movements per annum.
