The employment programme run by London City Airport and East London Business Alliance (ELBA), Take off into Work, has reached a huge milestone by getting 300 people from Newham into employment in 4 years since it began in 2009. Making it one of the most successful employment programmes in the borough.
The successful programme compromises a two week employability training course run by ELBA, Newham Workplace and the Airport’s Community Relations team and then a two week work placement at the airport within departments such as customer service, retail and car hire. The programme takes place five times per year, with up to 15 candidates and is open for application to all Newham residents over 16 who are not in employment or education.
The Take off into Work Project Manager, Anupma Majhu from ELBA said: ‘I am delighted to have hit the 300 into work milestone for the program. The continued success of Take off into Work is due to commitment London City Airport and on site-employers have to its local residents. I look forward growing the project in 2013.’
The next round of the Take off into Work employment programme is due to begin on Monday 25 February. To apply or for more information please contact Anupma Majhu on Anupma.majhu@londoncityairport.com.
