Flybe to Provide Continuity on Vital Link to Aberdeen

23/07/2014

Prime Minister David Cameron welcomes news that Europe’s largest regional airline is stepping in to retain twice-daily flights to Aberdeen

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has stepped in to secure vital continuity for customers using the key London City to Aberdeen route, with twice daily flights starting on Monday 27 October 2014.

The news today (July 23 2014) has been applauded by Prime Minister, David Cameron, who said: "I welcome today’s announcement that Flybe will introduce daily flights from Aberdeen to London City later this year - a vital route that helps support the north - south economy.

“Keeping our cities connected is part of our long-term economic plan to encourage investment and promote growth so we can generate jobs, pay our way in the world, and create stability, security and a brighter future for our country.”

This will be a sixth new route to add to Flybe’s brand new operation out of London City on 27th October 2014 that also features daily services to Belfast City, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter and Inverness.

Saad Hammad, Flybe’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to step in and continue to provide a twice-daily service between these two economic powerhouses. Flybe is the recognised European leader in providing frequent, convenient and affordable regional connections.

“Our announcement is a clear indication of our appetite to maintain momentum with our plans for growth and we look forward to welcoming many new passengers on board in October.

“The decision to add this flight to our already extensive point to point regional network reaffirms our commitment to listening to the needs of customers and being ‘the fastest way from A to Flybe.”

Adds Declan Collier, CEO of London City Airport: “Flybe’s presence at London City will grow much-needed air connectivity to the UK’s regions. We welcome today’s announcement, which will keep London’s business and financial districts on the doorstep of Scotland’s business communities.”
